"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Welcome

Thank you for visiting our website. As you learn about us in these pages, you will find that we are a Christ-centered church that is characterized by a belief that the Bible is God’s inspired word and His Grace is available to all believers. Our congregation is focused on prayer, study, and serving the community. We meet for Sunday School at 10am and Sunday morning worship at 11am. We would love to see you there!

November 15, 2017

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessings. I think I have sung this familiar hymn for as many Thanksgivings as I can remember. I love the feeling that in the past it has always flooded my soul as I think about the Lord’s blessings. This year is somewhat different. I am beginning to wonder if my feeling of the term blessing has changed.

The world around us has become so very mean spirited. It appears that everyday something simply rocks us to the core of our very being. I count my blessings now so very differently. My congregation continues to serve God and make disciples. We have not been mired down in political or social firestorms. I feel blessed that we have continued to see the appearance of new life. Babies simply keep coming; that is one of the greatest blessings I have witnessed.

As we pause for Thanksgiving 2017 I hope that each of you will stop long enough to think about what a true blessing really is. For many of us blessings are things that cannot be bought nor can they be truly expressed. They are simply thoughts or actions that as Wesley said warm our heart. I am asking each person to be thankful for the very moment we are in at present. More and more often we are not sure of what tomorrow is going to bring. Mend an argument, hug a grandchild, stop to visit with a neighbor, make a big contribution to the church, all of these are things you can be truly thankful for. You know I am kidding on the last one but I did not want to appear too serious.

Several pieces of housekeeping, the first is that I hope each of you will make sure you order your poinsettias. I want you to take the ones you’d like to have but it has become a tradition that we give all the residents and staff of Columbia Cottage a poinsettia for Christmas. We need to make sure we have 54 to do this. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Saturday morning December 2nd at 10am we will be meeting to transform our church for Advent. We need as many of you as possible to be here to help. Every year we have added a little more to the decorating process. The last two years we have finished by noon. Your help is just not appreciated it is needed. Many of the projects are as simple as dusting or unwrapping. I promise none of you are going to be asked to climb on the roof. I better see you there.

From mother and me we wish all of you a most wonderful Thanksgiving. May all the teams of your dreams be victorious.

See you Sunday!!
